CENTRALE IDROELETTRICA DI CRESPI D’ADDA

The Crespi d'Adda hydroelectric power station was founded in 1909 due to the increased energy needs of the cotton mill and the village. Built near the oldest hydromechanical power station, the new Crespi d'Adda hydroelectric plant was officially inaugurated on 25 July, the day dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of water. Initially equipped with three Kaplan turbines (with a vertical axis and completely submerged in the water to allow horizontal rotation) and fallen into disuse since 2009, it has now been brought back to life thanks to the Adda Energia company, part of the Gruppo Iniziative Bresciane Spa, which in 2015 bought it, renovated it and put it back into operation, allowing the public to access and visit the historical part of the building. The Crespi d'Adda power station is the smallest of those created on the middle course of the Adda, but certainly the most beautiful: the late Lombard Art Nouveau decorations, the presence of the original parquet flooring, the control panel and the 1909 turbine head make it a true jewel of industrial archaeology.
