CASTELLO RICETTO DI DESENZANO
includedThe castle that dominates the city, probably built on the structures of an ancient castrum Roman defence against barbarian invasions, it was rebuilt in the communal era and strengthened in the 15th century, when it was about 120 dwellings and one church dedicated to Saint Ambrose. Of the imposing fortified complex, the perimeter walls, punctuated by four towers, and the entrance dungeon with the remains of the ancient drawbridge.
At the end of the 19th century, the castle was transformed into military barracks, function maintained until 1943. Subsequent restoration work has returned the patrol walkway and the ascent to the donjon, which opens up one of the most impressive views of the Lake Garda. The former officers' quarters are now home to exhibition halls and conference spaces.
