CASTELLO PALEOLOGI – MUSEO CIVICO ARCHEOLOGICO

The Civico Museo Archeologico di Acqui Terme, housed in the medieval Castello dei Paleologi, displays a rich array of archaeological material from excavations carried out in the town and in the area in recent decades. The first rooms are dedicated to prehistory and protohistory, while the subsequent Roman section contains finds from the city's monumental and residential facilities, fine grave goods from urban necropolises, sculptures and funerary stelae. The main room recalls the thermal and curative vocation of the city of Acqui, presenting the reconstruction of the ancient Bollente fountain. The section dedicated to the late antique and medieval period closes the exhibition. Of particular note are the stone tools from prehistoric times, the numerous grave goods, the funerary stelae and the reconstruction of the monumental 'Bollente' fountain from the Roman period, the materials from the Longobard period and the decorated medieval ceramics. The museum hosts temporary exhibitions and educational workshops aimed in particular at primary schools. In addition, it is possible to access the museum storerooms attached to the exhibition halls by means of special guided tours (for details and tour times, please consult the museum website).
