A stone cube that blends, in the essential perfection of its form, the military strategy of a fortress and the architectural refinements of a princely residence. Every year, the halls of the castle come alive for the arrival of the characters of the Historical Carnival of Verrès.
Imponente castello quadrangolare in pietra che domina un'aspra gola boscosa, con mura difensive integrate nella roccia viva.

Perched on the cliff overlooking the village of Verrès, in perfect symbiosis with the landscape, the castle was erected by Ibleto di Challant, the most powerful feudal lord of the time, shortly before 1390. Its most original peculiarity lies in the exact geometry of its cube shape, which, anticipating Renaissance models, concentrates all functions in a single building.
In the 16th century, another important member of the Challant family, Count Renato, adapted the castle to the use of modern firearms, renovating its defensive apparatus with the construction of the mighty walls equipped with embrasures, buttress spurs and offensive turrets.

Reservation recommended especially on weekends. Reservations can be made at this link (by paying the pre-sale) or on site at one of the tourist offices that are Museum Pass sales points (Aosta, Pont Saint-Martin and Courmayeur). The season ticket holder must always pass by the ticket office before the visit.

Accessibility: To reach the castle from the car park, one has to walk up a steep slope, which leads to the entrance of the manor and to the internal stairs, for the visit to the upper floor. For this reason, the castle is not accessible to wheelchair users and pushchairs.
