CASTELLO DI RIVOLI | MUSEO D’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA

The mission of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea is to promote understanding of our age through art and culture, involving the local and international public in order to foster the social and civil growth of the territory in which it operates. In addition to collecting and exhibiting works of art, the Museum is a centre for creativity, research, education and the development of culture, especially in the field of contemporary art in a reflection on the present that passes through a dynamic relationship with the past. The Castello di Rivoli is also a point of reference for the art world, establishing for the first time in Italy the model of a museum dedicated to the contemporary. With its innovative exhibitions and radical artistic performances, since its foundation in 1984, the Museum of Contemporary Art has developed taking into account the uniqueness of the Baroque building that houses it. Designed in 1718 by Filippo Juvarra, the Castle is a constant source of inspiration for invited artists, stimulating the creation of new works specifically for the Museum's Permanent Collection. Acting in both the physical spaces of the Castle and the virtual ones, the Museum is a vital centre for experimentation, promoting significant artists from multiple generations, multiple geographical and cultural backgrounds. One of the distinctive features of the Castello di Rivoli is its focus on different fields of expression; the Museum actively collaborates with other cultural institutions by hosting, in addition to exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, film festivals as well as seminars and conferences. The Collection includes works owned by the Museum, works on long-term deposit purchased for the Museum from the Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, works from the Rivetti Foundation and, more recently, from the Cerruti Collection.
