CASA MACCHI – FAI

Morazzone (VA)
AM Tessera Lombardiaincluded
Located in the centre of Morazzone, a small village in the province of Varese, Casa Macchi is a typical 19th-century Lombard residence that FAI received as an inheritance in 2015 from its last owner and inhabitant, Maria Luisa Macchi, with all its furnishings of furniture, paintings and silverware and with the desire to make it a living museum, bringing prestige to Morazzone.
Elegante corridoio illuminato da grandi vetrate ad arco, con mobili e poltroncine d'epoca, soffitto a volta e tende rosse.

Perfectly preserved in its furnishings and decorations, down to the knick-knacks and everyday objects, the house with its lovely garden is an extraordinary testimony to the way of life and taste in living of a middle-class Lombard family between the 19th and 20th centuries. The rooms house the portraits of the inhabitants of the house, part of an interesting archive also consisting of photographs, letters, diaries and postcards, which make it possible to reconstruct the family's vicissitudes against the backdrop of the main events in Italian history, from the Risorgimento to the Second World War.

To honour the generous and civilised gesture of the donor, FAI restored Casa Macchi, opening it to the public in 2022. In the meantime, in 2021, FAI opened the Emporio di Casa Macchi, a shop selling a variety of goods to serve the community.

The restoration and enhancement project of Casa Macchi is the subject of a Programme Agreement with the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Morazzone aimed at the regeneration and revitalisation of the historic centre of the village.
