CASA LAJOLO

The house acquired its current layout around the middle of the 18th century, a date confirmed by both the external structure and the decorations on numerous ceilings. In particular, the ceilings of two rooms on the ground floor are repetitions in minor tones of the ceilings in the Appartamento di Levante in the Stupinigi mansion: that of the antechamber containing the tapestry cartoons and that, with flowered branches, of the cabinet with silk walls painted with flowers.
In recent times, the late Baroque decorations on the walls of some rooms, which had been covered by layers of paint, were restored, and in 2022 the house reopened after major restoration work on the roof and façade, so that it is completely renovated and consolidated, in compliance with the restrictions imposed by the Superintendency of Artistic and Environmental Heritage.
The house can be visited on the ground floor and in the green space in front, which has three main areas: the garden, the vegetable garden and the vineyard, and the traditional 'prà giardin'. The garden has three levels. The highest, is a gravel square in front of the manor house, at the edge of which are box hedges. The second tier is in turn divided into two parts: the first is an Italian-style garden delineated by boxwood cordons (Buxus sempervirens) and punctuated by taller, sculpted boxwood hedges (armchairs, geometric figures), the second is known as the 'English garden' and is a grove of yews (Taxus baccata), a true green wall that marks the boundary and justifies the symmetrical layout of the Italian garden. The third tier is mainly devoted to a small plantation of olive and fruit trees. Next is the kitchen garden, cultivated and cared for with an eye to biodiversity and the subject of educational and informative activities.
