Saluzzo (CN)
AM Tessera Piemonteincluded
Dating back to the 15th century, the ancient Palazzo del Comune preserves intact the 15th-century loggia on the ground floor and the refined terracotta decorations on the façade. The second floor houses the Art Gallery dedicated to Matteo Olivero, a leading exponent of Italian Divisionism; the collection boasts around one hundred works, including paintings, drawings and sculptures, celebrating his artistic legacy.

The Old Town Hall, erected between 1440 and 1462, now presents itself in its former glory thanks to restoration work that has brought to light the loggias on the ground floor and the refined terracotta and fresco decorations on the façade.

The beating heart of the building is the hall on the first floor: once the seat of the Congregations of the Marquisate, the room is embellished with a 15th-century coffered ceiling decorated with mythological, symbolic and heraldic motifs. Today the hall lives again as a multifunctional space for conferences, exhibitions and concerts. Going up to the second floor, the Matteo Olivero Art Gallery pays tribute to one of the greatest exponents of Italian pointillism; the exhibition itinerary unfolds through one hundred works - including paintings, sculptures and drawings - divided into four thematic sections that trace the master's artistic evolution, from social realism to the 1920s.

Dominating the complex is the Civic Tower. 48 metres high, it was begun in 1462 and completed in 1556 with the addition of the belfry loggia. More than an architectural work, the tower represented the autonomy of the town community vis-à-vis noble and religious power. After an ascent of 130 steps, you can enjoy a breathtaking view that sweeps from the medieval town to the plain, and on to the profile of Monviso and the Alpine arc.
