Business Museum
AEMuseum
includedAEMuseum - this is the name of the space dedicated to the care of the immense heritage guarded by Fondazione AEM - is conceived as a true immersive space in which the past comes to life thanks to the use of photographic and film material, industrial artefacts and pieces from the art collections within a dimension in which the digital constantly dialogues with the analogue.
Historical films, interactive exhibits and displays of objects accompany visitors on a journey of discovery of AEM's extraordinary history from the origins of public lighting to its transformation into a Life Company and its fundamental role in the industrialisation of Milan and the country.
In addition to being part of the network of Museimpresa, the Association of Italian Business Museums and Archives, AEMuseum is within the European industrial tourism circuits promoted by the Council of Europe through ERIH - European Route of Industrial Heritage.
On the occasion of the 22nd Corporate Culture Week, Fondazione AEM inaugurated a new exhibition space of its corporate museum whose founding principle is the use of historical heritage to understand the present and project visitors into the future through the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, for years a reference point for cultural-educational activities and scientific research and specialised training initiatives.
A natural continuation of the existing one, the new museum area is the result of a careful renovation, enhancement and energy efficiency work of the former teaching area.
Covering some 200 square metres, this new museum space consists of four interactive exhibits: two LED walls, a totem pole, an educational hub and an unusual digital periscope that dynamically engage the public amidst the testimonies of AEM's history and the Foundation's numerous cultural and scientific initiatives.
In particular, in the new area there are two interactive ledwalls dedicated to the themes of sustainable development and energy poverty, conceived as a means of dissemination, but also as a tool to 'navigate' between the company's past and the Foundation's present with respect to certain key objectives of our day.
A special section of the museum is dedicated to the younger generation thanks to the European project Let's Act!, designed as a platform-game to educate young people about sustainable development in an active way.
In fact, the children will be 'engaged' through some characters created with 3D printing that will guide them in watching films on the theme of sustainability. Through a periscope, then, it will be possible to 'fly' 100 metres above the Foundation's headquarters and see AEM's historical sites, such as the Gas Works at Bovisa, the Igea Marina colonies, and the Alta Valtellina dams. Finally, in a large sail towering above the new museum area, it will be possible to enjoy films and images from AEM's historical photographic archive and, during the exhibitions, images dedicated to thematic in-depth studies.
