ACDB – ALESSANDRIA CITTÀ DELLE BICICLETTE
includedThe Alessandria Città delle Biciclette (ACdB) museum, on the third floor of the Palazzo del Monferrato, is a tribute to the primary role that the city and province of Alessandria were able to play for a long fifty years, in the heroic age of cycling that spans the first years of national unity and reaches the First World War. The museum tells stories of passion and fatigue, which are the portrait of an Italy of the Campionissimi and their helmsmen, of extraordinary bicycle craftsmen like Giovanni Maino, of great journalists like Eliso Rivera, co-founder of the 'Gazzetta dello Sport', and of the great emotions linked to the men of two wheels, from Fausto Coppi to Costante Girardengo, from Giovanni Gerbi to Giovanni Cuniolo. It all began in 1867 with the arrival of one of the first bicycles brought to Italy by Alessandria entrepreneur Carlo Michel, after a visit to the Paris Expo. Alessandria thus regains a role that has always been its own in the history of cycling and sports journalism, reaffirming the profound reasons why it became the 'land of the Campionissimi', born not by chance in an environment where passion for bicycles has always been at home, and offering a special contribution to making cycling a popular sport. Perfectly restored historical models, relics of the various sporting activities carried out on the road and track, testimonies of the great champions, and temporary exhibitions await the visitor and accompany his journey.
