included Located in the municipality of Revello, at the gateway to the Po Valley, the Abbey of Santa Maria di Staffarda stands as one of the most significant and evocative medieval monastic complexes in the whole of Piedmont.
Founded by the Cistercian monks in 1135, the Abbey quickly established itself as the spiritual heart of the Marquisate of Saluzzo and, in parallel, as a thriving centre of agricultural innovation and productive.
The architecture of the complex faithfully reflects the rigour of ordera solemn simplicity where the stone and the exposed brick are intertwined with a profound religious symbolism. Against this backdrop of austere beauty, the majestic altarpiece from 1531, work attributed to Pascale Oddone; a masterpiece in polychrome carved wood and gold dedicated to the Virgin.
Testifying to the silent devotion and industrious life of the monks, they remain perfectly preserved today:
- the Church and its splendid Cloister immersed in stillness;
- the Refectory and the Chapter House;
