Estorre Visconti’s stock

The Monza Cathedral Museum and Treasure presents the new permanent exhibition section dedicated to Estorre Visconti, Lord of Monza.

After more than three hundred years, and following a process undertaken in consultation with the local community, the remains of Estorre, the famous “Stocco by Estorre Visconti” and the antique coins minted in his name are given a new and respectful home within the museum’s exhibition layout. An innovative exhibition designed by architect Gianluca Gatto, enriched by scientific research (LABANOF, IRCCS San Gerardo, UniMi, UniMi-Bicocca) and by Piero Pozzi’s artistic photographs.

1. Official Presentation and Inauguration

• Date: Saturday 7 November
• Hours:
  • 4 p.m: Presentation of the project at the Rose Room (registration from 3.30 pm) featuring scientific and project-related presentations.
  • 5 p.m: Official opening at the Level -1 (doors open at 4.45 pm).
• Where: Monza Cathedral Museum and Treasury (Entrance via Via Lambro 2).
• Cost: Free participation.
• Modalities of participation:
  • Presentation (4.00 pm): Compulsory reservation by email to [email protected] (subject to availability).
  • Opening ceremony (5.00 pm): Free entry, subject to capacity limits.

2. “Preview” Guided Tour”

• Date and time: Saturday 7 November – 10.30 am
• Duration: 30 minutes
• Cost: € 25,00 (includes a guided tour + admission to the museum; Excluding the Chapel and the Iron Crown).
• Reservation: This is compulsory; please call the following number 039.326383 (maximum 25 participants).

3. Guided Tours in Domenicali

• Date and time: Every Sunday (from Sunday 8 November until Christmas) – 10.30 am
• Duration: 30 minutes
• Description: A guided tour exploring the historical and personal story of Estorre Visconti.
• Cost: € 15,00 (includes a guided tour + admission to the museum; Excluding the Chapel and the Iron Crown).
• Reservation: This is compulsory; please call the following number 039.326383 (maximum 25 participants).

4. Series of in-depth lectures

• Where: Monza Cathedral Museum and Treasury (Entrance via Via Lambro 2)
• Cost: Free admission, but booking is essential at [email protected].
• Programme:

    • Rapporteur: Pier Sergio Allevi
    • Theme: Discovering weapons and armour in the time of Estorre.
  • 🪙 Sunday 31 January – 11.00 am (registration at 10.30 am):
    • Speakers: Loris Alessandro Gentili and Marco Emilio Erba
    • Theme: The historical and numismatic journey of Estorre Visconti.

🎟️ Free admission to the new section

As of Sunday 8 November, the new section can be visited during the Museum’s normal opening hours.

• Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (last admission at 5.30 pm).
• Ticket: Included in the standard museum admission ticket (€ 9,00).
• Reservation: Not required for walk-in visits.
