Reopening of Gamba Castle

After three months of closure, the Gamba Castle of Châtillon reopens its doors on Saturday 5 July 2025inaugurating a new phase under the banner of renovation and accessibility. The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Valle d'Aosta is at the centre of a major redevelopment project, also financed with funds from the NRP - National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Work - structural, plant engineering and fittings - will continue throughout the year, with the aim of transforming the Castle into an increasingly inclusive space. The project Culture without barriers: Gamba Castle to touch, see and feelfunded as part of the NRDP investment 'M1C3-3', aims to break down all kinds of barriers, both physical and cognitive, ensuring an accessible museum experience for all.

Among the novelties to come:

  • signage podactyl for the orientation of blind and visually impaired persons;
  • a multilingual app (Italian, French, English, with LIS translations) with accessible audio and video content;
  • a interactive web app to explore the history of the Castle and its collections in a playful way;
  • inclusive theatre events and workshops;
  • a simplified paper guidedesigned for children and people with cognitive fragility.

The Castle, which is part of the Aosta Valley Heritage, from 26 July to 28 September will also host a large solo exhibition by Michelangelo Pistoletto entitled Glacial Threads. From forests to the fabrics of the futurededicated to the dialogue between art, sustainability and innovative technologies.
