The restoration of the Last Supper in Santa Maria delle Grazie returns to Varallo

After major restoration work conducted between 2024 and 2025 at the Conservation and Restoration Centre The Venaria Reale, the large canvas depicting the Last Supper returns to its city, Varallo. The work, datable to the early 17th century and created for the refectory of the Franciscan convent next to the church of Santa Maria delle Graziehas been returned to the public thanks to a project promoted by the ABAP Superintendency of Biella, Novara, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Vercelliwith the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and the Vercelli Savings Bank Foundation.

To accompany the return of the painting, the Varallo Palace of Museums offers two appointments open to the public:

  • 22-23 October, 2.30-6 p.m. - Open building sitewith free admission, to see the exhibition and talk to restorers from the Conservation and Restoration Centre The Venaria Reale.
  • 24 October, 5 pm - Presentation of the restorationin the presence of the curators and restorers.
