Romanesque Churches of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre

7 June to 27 September 2026 Romanesque treasures in the area reopen for visits. A journey through time to discover millenary architecture immersed in the morainic landscape.

The historic circuit of the Romanesque Churches of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre (AMI). Throughout the summer season, the initiative will unveil to the public the beauty of a significant part of the area's Romanesque jewels, which can be visited on Sundays.

The 2026 edition sees the reconfirmation of the’Ecomuseum of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre in the key role of organisational coordination, promotion and management, supported by the active participation of a network of local municipalities and associations.

🗺️ Heritage Included in the Circuit

The heritage accessible in this edition includes the following sites of immense historical and cultural value:

  • Ivrea - Cathedral of St Mary of the Assumption
  • Ivrea - St Stephen's Bell Tower
  • Chiaverano - Church of Santo Stefano di Sessano
  • Burolo - Church of St Mary Magdalene
  • Bollengo - Church of Saints Peter and Paul of Pessano
  • Bollengo - Bell Tower of San Martino di Paerno (known as ‘Ciucarun’)
  • Candia Canavese - Santo Stefano del Monte Priory Church
  • Scarmagno - Church of Sant'Eusebio al Masero

🕒 Modes and opening hours

To facilitate the discovery of the area, the openings were organised in two ways:

Contemporary Opening

Every Sunday afternoon, from 7 June to 27 September, from 15:00 to 18:00:

  • Chiaverano - Santo Stefano di Sessano
  • Candia C.se - Santo Stefano del Monte
  • Bollengo - Saints Peter and Paul of Pessano

Scheduled Openings

Visible on specific dates (always on Sunday afternoons):

  • Burolo - St Mary Magdalene
  • Scarmagno - Sant'Eusebio al Masero

Sites Always Available

Some of the circuit's properties are offered with an outdoor focus, or are always accessible as active places of worship, such as the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Ivrea.

📚 Special Events: Books in Church (4th Edition)

In addition to guided tours and openings, the following is back for the fourth consecutive year Books in Church, the itinerant literary review combining written culture and sacred architecture. Authors and publishers linked to the Canavese territory will present their works directly within the evocative frames of Romanesque churches.

An organic and articulated cultural proposal, designed to strengthen the attractiveness of the circuit and intercept different audiences, from art history enthusiasts to lovers of literature and slow tourism.
