Bulboses in bloom

The Spring Festival returns to the Botanical Garden of Pavia

News published on 17 March 2026

Next Sunday 22 March 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Botanical Garden of Pavia will open its doors for the traditional Spring Festival. The event celebrates the blossoming of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other bulbous plants with a rich programme interweaving science, art and family activities.

Art and Nature: the sculptures of Carlo Mo

The star of this edition is the exhibition “Art in the Garden”, exhibiting the works of the sculptor Carlo Mo (1923-2004). The sculptures, immersed in the greenery, create a dialogue between geometric forms and plant heritage, offering visitors a new key to understanding the Garden's avenues. The exhibition will remain on display until 26 April.

A programme full of events

The day includes numerous initiatives (almost all of which are free, subject to payment of the entrance fee to the Garden):

  • Guided tours: It will be possible to discover the Garden and its bulbous collections (11.00 am, 3.00 pm and 3.30 pm), the Historical Library and the Germplasm Bank.
  • Workshops and games: For the youngest (6-11 years) there is the travelling workshop “Green Revolution” (cost 8 euros) and free botanical games organised by the Network of Botanical Gardens of Lombardy.
  • Culture and biodiversity: At 4.30 p.m., under the monumental Platano di Scopoli, the book will be presented “Sustainable gardens” by Francesco Fedelfio. The wood biodiversity exhibition at the Tropical Greenhouse will also be open to visitors..

A renewed vegetable garden

The festival is also an opportunity to admire the Garden's recent restoration, financed by the PNRR, which allowed the enhancement of the Scopolian Greenhouses and the introduction of new collections, such as the Irideto and the Torbiera with carnivorous plants.
