Historic cars

Made to measure. A tribute to the ingenuity of the Italian automobile

An exhibition celebrating the tradition of craftsmanship, engineering and style of the Italian automobile through some of its most iconic examples.

Protagonists of the installation are four historic cars:

  • the Bianchi 8HP of 1903
  • l'Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider Zagato of 1932
  • the Bisiluro DaMolNar 1955
    - all from the Museum's collections -
    together with theAlfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Berlinetta Touring of 1938, remanded to judicial custody to the Museum by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Milan Finance Police, under the coordination of the Superintendence for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Metropolitan City of Milan. A return to public enjoyment of an authentic masterpiece on four wheels.

The exhibition offers a contemporary reading of the historical collections, renewing accessibility, staging and storytelling. The title "Tailor-made"recalls the unrepeatable nature of each model: cars born from the encounter between technical requirements, stylistic vision e wishes of a refined clientelecapable of embodying the aesthetic and technological spirit of Italy between the wars.

The exhibition space was completely redesigned to enhance these sculptures in motioncurved glass, reflective surfaces, chrome details and a intense red colour create an immersive atmosphere, in dialogue with the aerodynamic shapes of the cars. Each car is visible on three sideswhile the fourth is reflected in a mirrored paneling which multiplies its constructive richness.
