The exhibition ICARUS, dedicated to Yukinori Yanagi, is the first major anthological exhibition in Europe of the Japanese artist, famous for his monumental and conceptual works. Yanagi, born in Fukuoka in 1959, explores complex themes such as sovereignty, borders, globalisation and technologyusing materials and symbols charged with political and social significance.
The title of the exhibition refers to the myth of IcarusHe reflects on human ambition and the consequences of over-reliance on technology, particularly nuclear energy. Through site-specific installations and large-scale sculptures, Yanagi invites the public to question the fragility of political systems and ongoing global interconnectedness.
The works on display include some of his most iconic creations, which play with the transformation of matter and movement, challenging traditional concepts of nationalism and identity. The exhibition will also offer an in-depth look at his most ambitious architectural projects, realised from 2008 to the present, and will be accompanied by a monograph published by Marsilio Editori with essays by leading critics and art historians.
The exhibition is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the artistic language of Yanagi, which combines art, history and politics in an exhibition with a strong visual and emotional impact.
