The exhibition Vincenzo Agnetti. Today is a centurycurated by Chiara Bertola with Virginia Lupo, represents an essential tribute to celebrate the birth centenary of one of the leading exponents of’Italian conceptual art. The exhibition originates from the work Photo-scratch 1980, a work of extraordinary intensity recently acquired by the Fondazione Arte CRT and intended for the collection of the GAM Turin. The exhibition focuses in particular on the experimental production which Vincenzo Agnetti has dedicated to the medium of photography, covering a time span ranging between the 1970s and 1980s.
In these works, the artist does not limit himself to using photography as a tool of documentation, but unhinges its intrinsic mechanisms through the use of exposed and scratched photo paper, where the incisive gesture becomes a sign of a visual writing deep and analytical. The collaboration with the’Vincenzo Agnetti Archive made it possible to structure a rigorous narrative within the project Fourth Resonance, highlighting how the artist was able to transform the technological medium into a place of philosophical and linguistic reflection. To visit this exhibition is to immerse oneself in research that investigates the language limit, the passage of time and the persistence of the image, consolidating the role of Turin as the nerve centre for understanding the historical vanguards and contemporary.
