The exhibition Villa Clerici: an artists' coterie in Milanhosted in the 18th-century Villa Clerici in Milan, offers a unique insight into the artistic fervour that characterised the Galleria d'Arte Sacra dei Contemporanei between the 1950s and 1970s. Curated by Luigi Codemothis dossier exhibition enriches the museum tour with a new thematic section, consisting of drawings, sketches, unpublished letters e historical photographsrevealing the deep relationships between GASC and the great artists of the 20th century.
On display will be works never or rarely seen before: preparatory drawings for paintings, sculptures and mosaics, sketches for cathedral portals and stained glass windows, and graphics with dedications. The featured artists include such illustrious names as Gino Severini, Aligi Sassu, Franco Gentilini, Primo Conti, Felice Casorati, Giorgio de Chirico, and many others.
The exhibition also recounts the role of GASC's first director, Dandolo Belliniwhich made Villa Clerici a centre of artistic exchange and collaboration, inspiring new works and projects. This 'artists' coterie' is still today a living laboratory of artistic solutions poised between sacred art and creative freedom.
