A caravan for Io Capitano

The exhibition A caravan for Io Capitanoset up at theFreidano Ecomuseum, proposes a visual and emotional journey through the extraordinary experience of the travelling caravan organised by Cinemovel Foundation in Senegal, to bring the film I Captain by Matteo Garrone in cities, suburbs and schools in the African country. The exhibition is curated by Silvia Camporesi and collects the evocative photographs by Niccolò Barca and Andrea Fiumanacapable of recounting the magic of cinema as an instrument of collective participation, inclusion and dialogue.

The project, which started in April 2024, involved symbolic places in Senegal such as Pikine, Thiès, Kolda, Ziguinchorwhere each screening became an opportunity to meet, thanks also to the presence of the actors Seydou Sarr, Moustapha Fall, Amath Diallo and the cultural mediator Mamadou Kouassi. Alongside the shots, the video by Thomas Pilani unveil the behind-the-scenes of the staging and the intensity of the emotions shared.

The exhibition, the result of collaboration with the National Cinema Museum in Turin, the Film Commission Torino Piemonteand other cultural and social realities, is part of a broader action of reflection and awareness-raising on migration, reception and human dignity, offering a powerful and touching narrative.
