The exhibition Humanscurated by Luigi Cavadini e Chiara Garrone, brings to Villa Bernasconi in Cernobbio the works of José Molina, a Spanish artist living on Lake Como. As part of the project Como - Cernobbio A/R, combining cultural and theatrical events, this exhibition is a profound reflection on the human condition.

Molina explores the essence of humanity through an artistic language that fuses past and present, dream and reality. His paintings tell stories of men and women, immortalising fears, hopes, vices and virtues with a sensitivity ranging between irony and social denunciation. His style, inspired by the great European painting tradition and mythology, is expressed through a mixed technique that combines oil and acrylic, ensuring a wide colour range and great expressive power.

At the centre of the exhibition is the recent cycle of paintings Dream of a long winter night, in which Molina dialogues with classical painting, introducing elements from the world animal and plant to re-read the present. Particularly significant is the work Europe II, which reinterprets a portrait of Philip IV of Spain in a surreal and symbolic key: the sovereign is depicted not on a noble horse, but on a hybrid creature between leafhopper and armadillo, a clear reference to the uncertainty of our time.

In addition to the canvases, three sculptures with a strong conceptual impact: I imagine, I doubt, I remember, works that invite the viewer to questioning the depths of the human psyche and collective memory.

Molina, an artist of international scope, has exhibited in prestigious institutions such as the Poldi Pezzoli Museum of Milan, the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Ducal Palace of Modena. His work continues to be a bridge between past and future, an invitation to observe our time with critical and curious eyes.
