The New Orchestra
From mountain communities to the community of the future
Duca degli Abruzzi' National Mountain Museum - Turin (TO)
includedFrom Thursday 30.10.2025 to Sunday 31.05.2026
The exhibition The New Orchestra investigates and imagines a different community horizon by bringing together artistic experiences, Alpine and rural communities, and contemporary ecological practices. Taking as its starting point six artistic residencies held in mountain territories - in Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia Romagna - the exhibition reflects on the role of the highlands as laboratories of relational humanity. The works by Hannes Egger, Olivia Mihălțianu, Rebecca Moccia, plural, Emilija Škarnulytė, Eugenio Tibaldiaccompanied by the reflections of Sofia Baldi Pighi, Gabriele Lorenzoni and Alexandra Mihali, give shape to an art discourse that questions the categories 'human/other than human' in favour of a rethinking of relations between human beingsin the context of social ecologies.
Interrogating the phenomena of the 'remaining', 'returning' and 'new inhabitants' of the Italian mountains, the exhibition proposes that these communities can serve as a model for a new community welfarean idea of collective care that also extends to the natural environment. The installations and artistic interventions alternate site-specific language, video, visual works and forms of participation that invite the visitor to engage with the idea of the mountain not as an isolated periphery, but as a space of togethernessof connection, of shared social experimentation. The gaze thus shifts from anthropocentric conflict to the rebirth of community relations, through landscape, territorial voices and symbols of care.
