The Breach. The wall breaks the silence

Royal Palace hosts a brand-new, site-specific exhibition project that fosters a profound dialogue between the building’s historical heritage and contemporary artistic expressions. Set within the evocative, historic rooms of the’The Princes’ Apartment, the exhibition showcases the painter’s impressive body of work Paolo Troilo, internationally recognised as the sole inventor of the finger painting Hyperrealist. The artist uses a unique technique of applying paint directly with his fingers, eschewing the use of brushes to create images of extraordinary visual and emotional impact.

Through this intervention, the works become veritable breaches capable of tearing through the veil of time, creating a direct bridge between memory and the present. For the occasion, Paolo Troilo has reinterpreted the palace’s exquisite tapestries, working directly with the historian Rubelli Weaving, the very same textile manufacturer that produced the original wall hangings for the rooms. This link between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design gives voice to the building’s long and rich history, evoking the spirit of the great figures who have shaped its various eras. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a polyphonic chorus in which the figures of Leonardo da Vinci – honoured with a highly personal reinterpretation of the famous The Vitruvian Man created to mark the 500th anniversary of her death – of queens such as Margherita of Savoy e Maria José, but also of the Visconti, who transformed the medieval building into the seat of their lordship, and of Napoleon Bonaparte, who designated the palace as the official royal residence of the Kingdom of Italy. The exhibition, curated by the renowned art critic Marco Meneguzzo with the scientific collaboration of Domenico Piraina e Simone Percacciolo, is a reflective journey that combines the glories of the past with the complexities of today’s world.
