The exhibition Steve McCurry. Uplands&Icons celebrates the extraordinary career of photographer Steve McCurry, famous for his evocative and intense shots. The exhibition, curated by Biba Giacchetti, is hosted within the prestigious walls of the Gromo Losa Palace e Ferrero Palace in Biella Piazzo, in the Unesco Creative City. The exhibition route presents 128 photographs divided into two main sections: the Highlands and the Icons. The first section explores the landscapes and cultures of the mountains from the Tibet to theAfghanistan, from theEthiopia at Brazil, with images depicting unspoilt beauty and life in extreme conditions. The second section offers some of McCurry's best-known portraits, including the iconic shot of the Afghan girl, Sharbat Gula, a symbol of the plight of refugees.
In addition, the exhibition offers an in-depth insight into McCurry's techniques and experiences through video interviews and an audio guide available in Italian and English. Visitors can also participate in the photo contest In the Mountains, inspired by the themes of the exhibition and open to all, amateurs and professionals alike. The exhibition not only celebrates art and photography, but also contributes to enhancing the Biellese territory, offering a cue to discover the history and culture of the place.
