Symphony of bodies in motion

The representation of sport in contemporary art finds very different expressions through the pictorial work of Natino Chirico and the fashion and design creations of Ken Scott, great friends in life. To the masterpiece of Natino Chirico entitled “Sport”, an installation of great emotional impact consisting of 99 canvas panels dedicated to sports disciplines, is flanked by 10 scarves and 3 models of dresses by Ken Scott, internationally renowned American artist and fashion designer.

The exhibition encapsulates the creative essence of the two authors: the former explores the world of the sports as a metaphor for life, commitment and beauty, celebrating physicality and ethical values such as dedication, respect and cooperation through mixed media, metal elements, gold or silver leaf and plastic on canvas. The latter literally revolutionised costume, bringing bold colours and graphics, as well as his famous pop aesthetic with iconic giant flower-printed fabrics, to the world of sportswear and accessories in Italian silk.

Both artists, although with different means of expression, use colour and movement to convey energy and vitality, making sport a vibrant and accessible subject in a universal and engaging language. The initiative, curated by the Conservator Anna Ranzi, is included in the entrance ticket to the exhibition space of Varenna and is part of the broader project of the Province of Lecco called “ConoSCIamo: stories of skiing and mountains”, which obtained funding from Lombardy Region within the framework of the call Cultural Olympiad.
