Limited Edition. Moving Landscapes in Photography

The MAUTO - National Automobile Museum by Turin presents a wide-ranging and comprehensive exhibition exploring the role of the car within the visual culture of the last 150 years. Curated by Lorenza Bravetta e Philippe Séclier, the exhibition brings together and creates a dialogue between the works of 40 international artists, tracing a historical and critical journey that spans from the masterpieces of Eugène Atget right up to the latest and most innovative research from the post-photography, integrating photographs, video e sculptures.

The exhibition presents a comprehensive exploration of the principle of seriality: concepts such as repetition, accumulation, variation, fragmentation and the dissection of the photographic image become fundamental frameworks for exploring the transformations in the relationship between the motor vehicle and the’architecture, the citythe landscape and the design. From the first fascinating insights of the historical vanguards From the dynamism of the car to the democratisation of this mode of transport in the second half of the 20th century, the exhibition highlights how the car has consistently been portrayed by the great masters of the lens as an iconic symbol of progress, freedom, desire e identity.

The visual journey is enriched and complemented by the physical presence of a selection of exceptional supercars produced in limited editions, created between the the 1980s and the first few decades of the 21st century. The direct comparison between works of art and high-end car manufacturing broadens the discussion on the relationship between seriality and exclusivity, emphasising that, even in the industrial sector, limited editions represent the ultimate expression of technological research, formal innovation e uniqueness.
