includedFrom Thursday 1.05.2025 to Sunday 31.08.2025
For the first time in Italy, Saul Leiter is celebrated with a major retrospective that reveals the poetic and silent soul of one of the most fascinating innovators of photography in the second half of the 20th century. Staged in the spaces of the Belvedere of the Reggia di Monza, the exhibition A window dotted with raindropscurated by Anne Morin, presents 126 black-and-white photographs, 40 colour photographs, 42 paintings, period magazines and a film document testifying to the uniqueness of Leiter's gaze, between urban lyricism and colour experimentation.
An irritant par excellence, Leiter turned everyday moments into "photographic haiku"preferring tarnished windows, reflections and fleeting details to grand urban narrative. His art eschews the documentaryism of the time, to embrace a fairytale realism that continues to influence entire generations of photographers today. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Leiter was able to value theuse of colour in a pioneering manner, integrating it with the pictorial sensibility derived from his training.
The exhibition not only illuminates the complexity of his photographic work, but also explores his dual identity painter and photographer, drawing a continuous line between pictorial vision and photographic practice. Enriching the exhibition are installations by the artist Patrizia Pfenningera contemporary homage to Leiter's intimate and discreet aesthetic.
Like every project Vertigo Syndromethe exhibition is accompanied by a rich calendar of workshops, laboratories and thematic meetingsdesigned for adults and children, turning the visit into an educational and sensory experience.
