Sandokan. The return of the tiger
MUFANT - MuseumLab of the Fantastic and Science Fiction - Turin (TO)

From Sunday 21.09.2025 to Saturday 21.03.2026
The new exhibition of MUFANT inaugurates the Rooftop and focuses on the myth of Sandokancelebrating the Indo-Malay cycle of Emilio Salgari and its iconic characters - Yanez, the Pearl of Labuan, and the Malaysian tiger. Conceived and edited by co-directors Silvia Casolari e Davide Monopoliwith a scientific committee of Italian and international experts, the exhibition traces the cross-media adaptations of novels: from the written page to the cinema, at comics, at theatreup to the televisionincluding materials from RAI Culture/Teche RAI.
The route offers a reflection on the dialogue between fantasy and realityon the theme ofexoticism and on the relationship between imaginary journeys e royal journeys: the comparison between Salgarian imagination and the explorations of Odoardo Beccari at Borneo illuminates two opposing ways of 'seeing' elsewhere. One section also explores how Italian locations - in particular the Calabria - can be transformed into adventure scenarios through the 'Salgarian method'. On display are costumes and handicraft objects from the peoples of the Sarawak (Iban, Orang Ulu, Penan), the result of the curators' research trips. Enriching the programme salgarian days, urban walks in Salgari's Turin locations and educational activities, including role-playing 'Malaysian tigers'. The exhibition benefits from the support of the City of Turinof the CRT Foundation and the Piedmont Region and coincides with the long-awaited new television series dedicated to the Salgarian hero (production Lux Vide with Rai Fiction).
