Temporary exhibition
Greetings from Villa Carlotta
Villa Carlotta Botanical Museum and Garden - Tremezzina (CO)
includedFrom Thursday 2.04.2026 to Tuesday 8.12.2026
The exhibition comes under the sign of a significant anniversary: the anniversary of the birth of the Duke George II of Saxony-Meiningen, a key figure in the history of the house. In this celebratory frame, which sees the Tremezzina ideally dialogue with the German city of Meiningen, the exhibition turns the spotlight on a fascinating and often unpublished visual heritage preserved in the’Historical Archive of the museum. Through a fine selection of vintage postcards, visitors are invited on a journey back in time, exploring the’evolution of the botanical garden, the architecture of the villa and the metamorphosis of larian landscape.
The images on display are not mere scraps of paper, but historical evidence documenting the botanical and structural changes that have taken place over the decades. The scientific project is distinguished by the important collaboration with the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions, Arts and Entertainment (SARAS) of Sapienza University of Rome, actively involving the young talents of the Advanced Training Course Museum and Exhibition Curator. In synergy with the 800 Lombardy Network, l'Ente Villa Carlotta therefore proposes an iconographic investigation that restores the collective memory of one of the most iconic places of the Lake Como, analysing the way in which the image of the villa was constructed and conveyed to the world through collecting and postal correspondence.
