Temporary exhibition
Robert Capa. Inside History
The Castile - Saluzzo (CN)
From Friday 23 October 2026 to Monday 29 March 2027
The exhibition Robert Capa. Inside History, set against the majestic backdrop of The Castiglia in Saluzzo – an ancient fortress and marquis’s residence, now converted into a centre for contemporary art – celebrates the artistic legacy of one of the founding fathers of Magnum Photos. Edited by Monica Poggi and promoted by Artea Foundation and from the Municipality of Saluzzo, the exhibition has been organised in close collaboration with the’International Centre of Photography (ICP) in New York, a prestigious institution founded by Cornell Capa.
The exhibition comprises 100 photographs, ranging from iconic shots to lesser-known works, and is organised into seven sections that document the linguistic evolution of modern photojournalism. Unlike detached observation, the photographer’s stylistic signature is based on proximity to the event and the viewer’s direct involvement in the scene depicted. The artist’s work thus becomes the turning point in the definition of so-called “concerned photography”, a visual art form attuned to the major social, political and military upheavals of the Twentieth century. In dialogue with the companion exhibition on Riboud, this exhibition offers a unique focus on shared international contexts such as China e Japan, emphasising the moment of impact when the story bursts tragically and forcefully into everyday life.
