The exhibition invites the public to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Belle Époque through the attentive and sensitive gaze of a artist photographer exceptional. The exhibition presents over 140 portraits that offer a visual narrative of an era characterised by profound changes, immortalising the faces and stories of a Valley posing in front of the lens. Absolute protagonist is Eugenio Goglio, famous photographer from Piazza Brembana a Bergamo, whose professional activity unravelled masterfully between the end of the’Nineteenth century and the beginning of the Twentieth century.
The exhibition route winds its way through single portraits, of couple o group, achieved both in the rigour of the studio both in the spontaneity of the shots en plein air. This varied gallery of images is not only an aesthetic tribute, but represents a cultural operation of great value that restores to visitors the preciousness of one of the oldest and most significant nuclei of the’Sestini Photographic Archive. Located in the picturesque setting of the Convent of St Francis, the exhibition celebrates the historical memory of the Bergamo area, paying tribute to a pioneer of photography who was able to crystallise the social and human identity of his time. Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Bergamo and the Bergamo Story Museum, visitors can rediscover a visual heritage of inestimable documentary and artistic value.
