Wagner Resonances. Visions around the Ring

Straddling the Nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the phenomenon of Wagnerism imposed itself as a disruptive cultural force, capable of crossing music, literature, visual arts and philosophical thought. As Friedrich Nietzsche, "Wagner sums up modernity”: a statement that sums up the totalising impact of the work and aesthetic vision of Richard Wagner.

The exhibition Wagner Resonances. Visions around the Ringhosted by the La Scala Theatre Museum, takes this legacy as a starting point, questioning the contemporary vitality of the monumental project of the Ring Tetralogy. The exhibition not only evokes the universe of the Ring des Nibelungen, but investigates its deeper ramifications: from the very concept of seriality to the suggestions that fed the imagination of the fantasy, to the multiple declinations of myth in contemporary visual language.

Four figurative artists were invited to confront the themes, the characters and the situations of the Wagnerian cycle, translating them according to their own sensitivity and poetics. The works presented are not intended to reproduce the theatrical scene nor to propose sketches or illustrations, but to offer pictorial and visual re-elaborations autonomous, rooted in the present but traversed by a clear Wagnerian ancestry.

Layered visions emerge, in which myth dialogues with current events, memory intertwines with interpretation, and the language of contemporary art measures itself against one of the most ambitious cultural projects of European modernity. The exhibition thus becomes a space of resonance, where the past continues to vibrate in the present.
