On the 25th anniversary of the sculptor's death Mario Molinarithe Alessandri Museum dedicates an extensive exhibition to him thirty works significant in his career. The artist, originally from Coazze, began to express himself artistically in the late 1950s, in parallel with his work in the Paper mills of Coazze. It was Raffaele Ponte Corvohis only teacher, who initially influenced his pictorial language.
In the 1960s he joined the movement Surfantaconceived by the charismatic Alessandribut distances himself from it to follow his own artistic path, giving rise to the so-called pictosculpturesthree-dimensional works that merge painting and sculpture. Initially working with the copperevoking archaic and tribal symbols, but from the 1970s opened up to the use of aluminium, wood e brightly coloured plasticsalso bringing his creations into public spaces.
His accessible and deeply communicative art finds a place in numerous international contexts, but it is the Peace Totemthanks to the MAMT of Naples and his heirs Pia and Jacopo Molinarito become emblematic of its universal message of brotherhood and unity of peoples.
