The exhibition Rebecca Horn - Cutting Through the Pasthosted at the Rivoli Castle Museum of Contemporary Art and edited by Marcella Beccariarepresents the first retrospective dedicated to the artist in an Italian public museum institution. The exhibition traces the entire career of the famous German artist, who recently passed away, and pays tribute to her central role in the development of thecontemporary art. The works on display range from installations at sculptures, come on film at drawingsspanning a period of time from 1960s up to the last works.
Through a language that fuses the mechanic and thehumanRebecca Horn has been able to create a powerful and restless visual and conceptual universe, addressing themes such as the time, the memorythe desire and the power relations. Among the works on display are the iconic kinetic machines, such as Pfauenmaschine (Peacock Machine), presented at the 1982 Kassel documenta, and Hauchkörper (Breathing Body), 2017, alongside monumental installations such as Inferno, Turm der Namenlosen e Concert for Anarchy.
Particularly intense is the section dedicated to first performanceswith the large-scale projection of restored videos documenting the actions of the 1970s. A selection of the artist's art films and important loans from the Moontower Foundation in Germany, including the work that gives the exhibition its title, complete the exhibition, Cutting Through the Past.
