Bridges and roads. Signs along the way

The Arnaldo Tazzetti Alpine Museum by Usseglio presents a major exhibition resulting from a collaboration with the’Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin and theOpera Barolo. The theme of the exhibition centres on the symbolic significance of the bridge and the road, seen as symbols of unity, journey and exchange between different places and cultures. The main protagonists are fourteen students from the Turin academy who, under the supervision of Professor Gabriele Garbolino Rù and the teaching staff Viola Barovero, Salvatore Giamblanco e Giuseppe Leonardi, present works that range from figurative art to symbolism and intense realism. The selection panel was chaired by the renowned art critic Angelo Mistrangelo.

Alongside the artistic section, the exhibition offers an in-depth historical exploration of the area of the Viù Valley. Indeed, the fundamental contribution of Carlo Tancredi, Marquis Falletti of Barolo and his wife Giulia Colbert, who, in the mid-19th century, financed the construction of the carriage road from Germagnano a Viù Forges. The exhibition itinerary, curated by the Loredana Iacopino Architecture Studio, is further enriched by the museum’s latest acquisition, the painting “Ancient Bridge near Viù” by Giovanni Battista Carpanetto, of two bronze sketches by Garbolino Rù dedicated to the philanthropic figure of Giulia of Barolo, and reproductions of nineteenth-century drawings by Clemente Rovere. The exhibition is rounded off by a historical video curated by Alessandro Mella and assembled by Enrico Peter Grande which also documents the destruction of the bridge by the Partisans and its subsequent reconstruction of the first bridge in Viù.
