The exhibition Piranesi | Basilico. Views of Rome hosted in the atmospheric Captain's Hall of Rocca visconteo veneta by Lonato del Gardapresents a fascinating comparison of engravings by Giovanni Battista Piranesi and the photographs of Gabriele Basilboth portrayers of the Eternal City. The works of Piranesi18th century engraver, and the photographs of Basilmade in 1989 for the magazine DU and inspired by the Views of Rome, merge into a unique vision of Ancient Rome e contemporary.
The exhibition is the result of a project by the Cini Foundation of Venice of 2010, which mandated Basil to reinterpret the Views of Rome in the context modern metropolitan. The collaboration between the Ugo Da Como Foundation and theGabriele Basilico Archive made this event possible, enhanced by the extraordinary collection of the cav. Luigi Nocivellia Brescian entrepreneur, which includes five editions of the works of Piranesi.
The exhibition, curated by Filippo Maggiaoffers the public a selection of 32 viewsaccompanied by two large photographs and an extraordinary specimen of the Campus Martius by Piranesi, stored in the Nocivelli Collection. The works of Basilrespecting the monument as a modern architecture, reveal the resilience and theaustere silence of the ancient vestiges of Rome.
The exhibition aims to introduce the public to the Ugo Da Como Foundation Library and the work of Basilcelebrated urban landscape photographer, offering a unique opportunity to explore the urban poetry by Rome through two masters of their time.
