Moving into the light

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Masnago Castle hosts an impressive exhibition where the creations of the Lombard artist Giuseppe Portella enter into a profound and dual relationship with their surroundings. The exhibition takes place in the rooms of the ground floor, defining a harmonious dialogue with both the ancient Castle architecture, with a selection of works from the permanent collection. Among the nationally prominent names accompanying the route are masters deeply connected to the territory of Varese such as Dadamaino, Paolo Minoli, Claudio Olivieri e Marcello Morandini.

The installations are not conceived as a linear route, but as thematically autonomous units, each capable of evoking suggestions through unique technical and formal comparisons. L’essence of light emerges as the absolute star: Portella uses innovative materials such as the resins, used in purity or aggregated to steel e cement. The uniqueness of Portella's work lies in its use: thanks to the inclusion of rare earths, many panels become luminescent, unleashing its visual and poetic power precisely at the darkness. In this context, light is not only an exhibition vehicle, but becomes an integral and substantial part of the artwork itself.
