Temporary exhibition
Olga Cafiero | Cultus Langarum
Wi.Mu - Wine Museum in Barolo and Wi.La - Wine Labels Collection - Barolo (CN)
From Sunday 18.10.2026 to Thursday 31.12.2026
A row of vines viewed up close, the contours of the landscape seen from above, the traces of history preserved in the archives. The Langhe can be portrayed from different perspectives, revealing even what normally escapes the eye. It is from this exploration that the Swiss-Italian artist’s photographic project stems Olga Cafiero, winner of the first edition of the Garesio Wine Prize for Documentary Photography, an award organised by the’Garesio Winery by Serralunga d’Alba to support talented photographers on the international contemporary photography scene.
The exhibition is curated by Giangavino Pazzola for CAMERA - Italian Centre for Photography, with the support of the’Garesio Winery and in collaboration with the Barolo & Castles Foundation, within the scope of EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival. The project stems from a period of residency and research carried out in the area between 2024 and 2025. Through aerial photographs, archive material, digital scans and experiments conducted amongst the rows of vines, the artist explores the land of the Barolo in its morphological, historical and cultural aspects, weaving together botany, photography and wine culture. The choice of the WiMu, situated within the Falletti Castle, links this research to the permanent exhibition conceived by the set designer François Confino to explore the relationship between wine, people and culture. The images thus add a contemporary perspective to a narrative that spans the history of wine and its deep connection with the land.
