Not Bad Intentions. Attempts to Coexist by Sheng-Wen Lo explores the complex relationships between the human and non-human worlds, questioning the’anthropocentrism and its implications. Through three works ranging from video, photography, installation e participatory practices, the artist stimulates a critical dialogue on coexistence and the contradictions that emerge even in solutions considered “sustainable".
Among these, A Matter of Scale questions the intensive algae cultivation, celebrated in the West as a practice green, but already responsible for significant ecological changes in East Asia.
In White Bear, It focuses on the condition of polar bears in captivity, hosted in zoos complex and artificial. The work questions the’ethics of conservation programmes which, although intended for educational purposes, often resemble forms of entertainment.
Finally, Down describes the artist's attempt to manually create a sustainable duvet“ using feathers collected in the Netherlands. Tested under conditions Arctic, the project becomes a reflection ironic and practical on the limits of mass production and on the possibility of alternative routes really environmentally friendly.
The exhibition is part of the main programme of the second edition of EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival entitled Beneath The Surface.
