The exhibition Norman Parkinson. Always in Fashion celebrates the work of the famous British photographer Norman Parkinsonwho revolutionised fashion photography with his innovative style during the Twentieth century. The exhibition, curated by Terence Pepper, collects 80 iconic imagestracing all stages of the career of the artist, who has worked for legendary magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue e Town & Country.
With a dynamic and spontaneous approach, Parkinson disrupted the canons of fashion photography by taking models out of the studio and capturing their elegance in the real world, from urban to exotic settings. An unprecedented visual language that has profoundly marked the aesthetics of fashion and influenced entire generations of photographers.
Among the works on display is the famous photograph of the 1939 portraying Pamela Minchin while jumping into a swimming costume on the beach at the Isle of Wight, a shot that the artist himself described as decisive for his career. Other iconic images include the portraits of Audrey Hepburntaken in Italy in 1955and those of music and fashion legends such as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Yves Saint Laurent and Hubert de Givenchy.
Over the years '60 e '70Parkinson continued to innovate by collaborating with the magazine The Queen and contributing to the consecration of models such as Jerry Hall and Iman. The exhibition closes with works from the years '80when Parkinson was awarded the title of Commander of the British Empire and gets a major retrospective at the National Portrait Gallery, London.
