TOSIO MARTINENGO ART GALLERY - Brescia (BS)
includedFrom Tuesday 27.05.2025 to Sunday 16.11.2025
The Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery hosts, as part of the cycle PTM Returnthe masterpiece Noli me tangere by Ludovico Mazzolino, one of the most original and visionary Ferrara artists of the early 16th century. The work, donated to the Municipality of Brescia by the Minola family in 1942, now returns to dialogue with the masters in the permanent collection, creating an evocative bridge between Moretto, Savoldo and Lotto.
The painting depicts the meeting between The Risen Christ and Mary Magdalenea suspended scene, dominated by an intense and theatrical atmosphere. The windswept robes, the raised shroud and the gestures of the protagonists render a moment of great emotional dramain which physical proximity is contrasted with an unbridgeable spiritual distance. The episode in the background, with Christ on his way to Emmaus, enriches the canvas with further symbolic and narrative references.
Mazzolino, little inclined to the strict classicism of the Renaissance, was inspired by Dürer e Giorgione, combining narrative vivacity, intense colours and an almost fairytale-like taste that distinguishes him from his contemporaries. This exhibition is therefore not only an opportunity to admire a rare and precious work, but also to understand the artist's unique position in the artistic landscape of his time.
An event promoted by Municipality of Brescia e Brescia Musei Foundation, edited by Michele Danieliwhich confirms the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery as a meeting place for tradition and new perspectives on Renaissance art.
