To bring one of the key figures of the 20th-century Italian applied arts, rediscovering the dialogue between craft tradition, artistic research e modernity. This is the aim of the exhibition on display at the Ballroom at Sforza Castle by Milan, dedicated to the work of Nino Ferrari. A master of metalwork, engraving, chiselling and embossing on silver, copper e pewter, Ferrari It has been operating with extraordinary success between Brescia e Milan from the 1930s to the 1970s.
Through an evocative display, the exhibition presents around about a hundred items which reveal the artist’s stylistic evolution and poetic world. The main part comprises sixty works metal pieces capable of transforming rigid surfaces into vibrant volumes of light, flanked by thirty preparatory drawings e Ten historic workshop pieces, including plaster moulds and tools.
A key chapter is devoted to the close partnership with Gio Ponti. The collaboration with the renowned architect and designer marked a pivotal moment in the rise of Ferrari on the national scene. The exhibition reconstructs their dialogue through previously unpublished correspondence, historical photographs and periodicals of the time, whilst also highlighting their involvement in the The 6th Milan Triennale, 1936 featuring vases designed by Guido Frette.
