Temporary exhibition
Mimmo Rotella. On the Road
Fabbrica del Vapore Milan - Milan (MI)
From Saturday 19 December 2026 to Sunday 28 March 2027
Twenty years after the death of Mimmo Rotella, the Steam Factory by Milan is hosting a major exhibition curated by Alberto Fiz with multimedia curation by Rebecca Pedrazzi. The exhibition features over 40 works, including some large-scale pieces, celebrating one of the leading figures of the second Twentieth century through a visually striking production and a profound reflection on his visceral connection with the street.
The exhibition begins with the back of the poster from the 1950s, in which the artist uses the reverse sides of posters to create multi-material, abstract and tactile compositions marked by the passage of time. The itinerary continues with a tour of the famous take-off, the overpainting and the works on sheet metal, paying particular attention to his work from recent years, characterised by pieces with a strong environmental impact that challenge the prevailing narrative.
For the artist, the street is a permanent studio and the main source of inspiration: billboards, faces of the cinema, letters and urban graffiti become the raw material for creating a new visual language. Through the tear, Castor takes a radical step capable of revealing hidden meanings and creating entirely unexpected connections.
The visitor experience is further enhanced by two multimedia installations: one virtual tear which allows you to explore the maestro’s gestures and a video storytelling which traces his life, weaving together art, advertisement e urban life.
