Martin Parr. Irony & Love
A Guide to a Happy Life
Spazio Varesina 204 - Milan (MI)
From Thursday 15 October 2026 to Sunday 28.02.2027
Martin Parr. Irony & Love: A Guide to a Happy Life, edited by Arianna Rinaldo, leads to Milan the ironic, curious and deeply human perspective of one of the best-known photographers of his generation. At the Spazio Varesina 204, in the heart of the Milan Certosa District, the exhibition invites visitors to take a fresh look at the work of Martin Parr through two key elements: irony e love, understood as a pair of concepts through which to view life and its contradictions with a light-heartedness and a sense of engagement.
Produced by Varesina 204 from a project by Monstrum e YourPictureEditor, the exhibition presents 70 photographs carried out over a period of more than thirty years. The exhibition explores the theme of leisure and the mass tourism, setting off from the beaches of Benidorm on the slopes of the Switzerlandup to the the pyramids of Egypt and those Maya in Mexico. Among the images, shots from famous projects such as Common Sense, Sign of the Times e The Last Resort.
From the collective sphere, we then move on to a more intimate one with the famous series Bored Couples, centred on couples and everyday relationships, before giving way to a colourful celebration of the’folk love and aesthetics kitsch. The exhibition concludes with a section dedicated to the self-portraits and an interactive area with a photo shoot for visitors only.
