The exhibition Mario De Biasi. The courage that made EPOCA celebrates one of the greatest Italian photographers of the 20th century, a master who was able to transform photography into an instrument of universal tale. The exhibition, curated by Enrica Viganò in collaboration with theMario De Biasi Archive, presents over 200 photographs tracing the photojournalist's entire career: from his beginnings to his last shots in 2003. Particular attention is paid to the collaboration with the magazine 'Epoch' (1953-1983), which established him as a privileged witness to the major historical and cultural events of his time.
Among the most famous shots is Italians turn around (1954), which became an international icon and was also presented at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. But the exhibition also embraces images of everyday life, reportages from the five continents, portraits of celebrities such as Sofia Loren, Brigitte Bardot e Federico Fellinias well as memorable accounts of epoch-making events: from the Italian economic miracle to theinvasion of Budapestup to the conquest of the Moon.
The exhibition is enriched by original materials such as vintage issues of the magazine, historical telegrams, volumes and audiovisual projections. Everything is housed in the refined frescoed rooms of Arese Borromeo Palacewhich offer an extraordinarily evocative backdrop for a journey through the history, culture and humanity immortalised by De Biasi's lens.
