The man and the book

In the fascinating rooms of the Nòssi Ràis Civic Museum A one-of-a-kind photographic exhibition is being launched, created to celebrate an extraordinary moment in local and national culture. The exhibition brings together the official selection of images that have won awards and received recognition as part of the’Eporedia Photo Contest 2022, a special edition designed to pay tribute to Ivrea Italian Book Capital 2022. The central theme visually links the human figure with the power of the written word, exploring the intimate bond between the reader, the author and the book as an object. The participating photographers were set a complex creative challenge: as well as adhering strictly to the proposed theme, each photograph had to be inextricably accompanied by a short passage taken from a book considered emotionally significant to the photographer themselves.

Out of the hundreds of entries, around twenty photographs were awarded the top honours by the jury. This group of outstanding entries comprises the top three winners, the People’s Choice Award, the special mentions and honourable mentions, as well as the prestigious special prize dedicated to Ivrea. The initiative is a valuable travelling exhibition developed with great care as part of the AMI Museum Network. The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the’Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre Ecomuseum Association, l'Michela Project Association and the Municipality of San Giorgio Canavese, which together offer visitors an exciting journey straddling the worlds of the visual arts and literary imagery.
