Temporary exhibition
Luca, get a move on
A previously unseen ‘Conversion’ by Luca Giordano
TUESDAY | Sorlini Art Museum - Calvagese della Riviera (BS)
From Saturday 24 October 2026 to Sunday 29.11.2026
The Tuesday: Sorlini Art Museum by Calvagese della Riviera is hosting an exceptional exhibition centred on a masterpiece never before seen by the public. The undisputed star of the exhibition is the monumental canvas The Calling of Saints Peter and Andrew to the Apostolate, dating from c. 1665 and realised by Luca Giordano, one of the most famous masters of the Italian Baroque. Nicknamed “Luca, hurry up’ Thanks to his extraordinary speed of execution, the Neapolitan artist captures in this early painting the dramatic naturalism of Jusepe de Ribera and the rich palette of colours typical of the Venetian tradition.
The work, depicting the famous Gospel scene of the “fishers of men”, is being presented to the public for the very first time and placed in direct comparison with the museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition thus creates a striking visual dialogue with the paintings of the great masters of the movement dark-toned, such as Andrea Celesti, Antonio Zanchi e Girolamo Forabosco. Through striking contrasts of light and shade and dark backgrounds, the exhibition offers an in-depth exploration of the influence of Caravaggio’s legacy on the painting of the Six hundred. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the thrill of discovering an extraordinary work of art, set against the rich backdrop of Brescia’s art gallery.
