I Only Want You To Love Me
PAC - Pavilion of Contemporary Art - Milan (MI)
includedFrom Friday 4.07.2025 to Sunday 14.09.2025
The PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art presents I Only Want You To Love Me, the first anthological exhibition dedicated to the artistic duo Lovett/Codagnone, formed in 1995 by John Lovett (Allentown, Pennsylvania, 1962) and Alessandro Codagnone (Milan, 1967 - New Jersey, 2019).
Promoted by the City of Milan and realised in collaboration with Participant Inc of New York, the exhibition is curated by Diego Sileo.
The exhibition traces the duo's entire creative parabola, presenting their early photographic and video works, recent sculptural works, billboards and a new neon installation created especially for the occasion.
Central to their production is the investigation of the relationships between love and power, declined as dynamics of tension and unmasking within interpersonal relationships and social structures. Through photography, performance, video, sound and installation, Lovett/Codagnone adopt tactics of underground resistance to explore processes of normalisation that repress sub-cultures, practices of dissent and assertions of individual identity. Their works feed on references to radical figures from literature, film, theatre and punk music.
In 2008 they founded the band CANDIDATE together with musician Michele Pauli.
Dedicated to the memory of Alessandro Codagnone, the exhibition is a valuable opportunity to rediscover the duo's disruptive power and their impact on the international art scene and the new generations.
