Giuseppe Caccavale, the Intruder, in Oltretempo

The exhibition project features the artist Giuseppe Caccavale to act as an “intruder” in the FIFTH RESONANCE, called upon to establish a fruitful dialogue with the historical heritage of the GAM – Turin Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art. Under the curatorial guidance of Chiara Bertola e Virginia Lupo, the artist explored the rich collections housed in the museum storerooms, carefully selecting a core group of plasters and a series of paintings depicting mountain landscapes, focusing on the peaks that outline the horizon of Turin.

The selection of the works is the result of a careful search for poetic, formal and iconographic correspondences. The plasters, suspended in their nature between preparatory sketch and finished work, together with the depictions of the mountains — images that are both real and symbolic — become key elements in the expressive language of Giuseppe Caccavale, which has always been focused on the transmission of knowledge, visual memory and writing as a means of connection.

The exhibition, designed specifically for the Contemporary Art Space, is created directly on the walls of the hall using the technique of dusting. This traditional practice, based on the transfer of writing through powder and direct contact, evokes the fragility and persistence of the visual trace. The mural work envelops the entire exhibition space, creating an immersive atmosphere within which the masterpieces from the deposit.

The result of a widely supported process, the project involves the active collaboration of students from the’Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, working directly alongside the artist. This workshop-based approach transforms the creative act into a collective experience, reaffirming a vision of art as the transmission of knowledge and the construction of a shared memory.
